AN EPIDEMIOLOGIC SURVEY OF THE ABNORMAL LINGUAL FRENUM IN KOREAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN


Abstract
The purpose of this survey of 603 Korean elementary students is to check the abnormal lingual frenum.
The author imposed on the rate of abnormal lingual frenum in sample subjects and tried to find the correlation between lingual frenum and malocclusion and caries index.
And also measured the length of lingual frenum by using the frenum ruler.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. Incidence of abnormal lingual frenum is 61.45 of whole sample
2. DF Index is higher in abnormal lingual frenum group than in normal subjects.
3. Frequency of abnormal lingual frenum is higher in subjects with malocclusion than in subjects with normal occlusion.
4. Length of lingual frenum is longer in abnormal lingual frenum group than in normal subjects. Its mean of abnormal lingual frenum group is 11.8 ¡¾ 3.88(mm). Its mean of normal subjects is 8.20 ¡¾ 3.03(mm).
5. Maximum length of tongue protrusion is shorter in abnormal lingual frenum group than in normal subjects. Its mean of abnormal lingual frenum group is 28.5 ¡¾ 3.57(mm). Its mean of normal subjects is :35.6 ¡¾ 2.88(mm).
